Simply Amish of Indianapolis is becoming
SA Home Furnishings®
Same family. Same craftsmanship. Every room of home.
If you know the showroom at 4505 East 82nd Street, you already know us. For years, Indianapolis has known this place as Simply Amish of Indianapolis—and the two people in these photographs have been here through all of it. The name on the door is changing.
The story behind it is not.
The Story
It started on a family farm
In the 1970s, America was falling for convenience. Furniture had become something you bought on a Saturday and replaced without a second thought—made quickly, sold cheaply, forgotten easily. But out in the quiet farm country of the Midwest, a different idea survived: solid hardwood, honest joinery, pieces built by hand to outlive the hands that built them.
In 1979, Kevin Kauffman and his brothers joined their dad on the family farm to learn that craft—the patient kind of work where the wood is chosen carefully, the joints are cut true, and there is no such thing as a shortcut. Kevin believed families everywhere deserved furniture like that, not just the ones lucky enough to live near it. So he joined forces with his uncle, John Mast, and founded Simply Amish—connecting a network of traditional Amish workshops across the Midwest with families who wanted something worth passing down.
It was a small idea and a big one at the same time: never compromise the craft, and never stop finding new ways to bring it home to people.
“A home comes together one room at a time—and so did we.”
Built the way everything here is built—to last
Kevin and Stephanie built the Indianapolis showroom the way they built their life together: patiently, honestly, for the long haul. And something remarkable happened along the way—the families who walked through the door kept coming back.
They came in young, choosing a dining table sturdy enough for a lifetime of Sunday dinners. Years later they were back for the bedroom, then the living room, then the office down the hall. Their tastes evolved, their houses changed, their families grew—and the showroom grew right alongside them. That is the quiet miracle of this place: people do not just shop here. They grow with us.
Loyalty like that cannot be bought with a sale or won with an ad. It is earned slowly, the same way the furniture is made—one honest decision at a time.
Growing Without Letting Go
One room always leads to another
As the families grew, so did the store—but never carelessly, and never at the cost of the standard. Every time something new joined the floor, it had to earn its place beside solid Amish hardwood: custom upholstery by Norwalk, motion furniture by Elran, custom window treatments, and now custom-crafted kitchen cabinetry and bath vanities, built in the same Midwest woodshops that started it all.
Today, some families come to us for a single, perfect piece. Others have trusted us with entire homes—even cabins and second properties—working room by room with our design team until every corner tells their story. What began as an Amish furniture showroom has quietly become something more: the place where your whole home comes together.
Quality always wins
Here is what more than thirty years of this work has taught us: quality always wins. Not loudly, and not overnight—but always. Quality of product, because a table built right needs no apology and no replacement. Quality of service, because being treated well is something people never forget. Trends come and go. Craftsmanship, patience, and keeping your word never go out of style.
We never lost our roots. We just kept growing from them.
